Rich P Carney
Hi! I'm Rich and I'm a Reiki Master Teacher, Meditation Instructor, and Chronic Illness Warrior.
I have been practicing meditation and yoga for over 12 years and am in a 300 hour Hatha Yoga teacher training program with Aura Wellness Center. I got serious in my spiritual journey after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in 2012 and subsequent surgeries including a total hip replacement. I'm bionic now! 😊 I recognized my need for self-care and holistic wellness leading to my becoming a Reiki Master Teacher. Seeing the transformation I had in my own healing, I knew I wanted to support others on their personal healing journey. I have a heart-centered approach with various vibrational energy modalities available including drums, singing bowl, crystals, reiki, and light language. I serve as a guide on your healing journey, allowing you to receive the healing that you want and need most.
I received my Reiki training through The Center for Conscious Care Giving in Brick, NJ. I am trained in White Light Reiki, Holy Fire II, and Multi-Dimensional Reiki. I view and teach Reiki as a relaxation technique and process to bring your body into balance. It is a way to activate the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) which is your body's rest and digest state allowing you to achieve homeostasis. Activating the PNS gets your body out of the stressful fight, flight, freeze state that happens so frequently in our lives.
Reiki Works! (The Sciencey Bits)
In 2017 the Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine published a review of available studies and the evidence that Reiki is effective for individuals with chronic health conditions. It was found that Reiki was more effective than the other treatments for reducing pain, depression, and state anxiety in chronically ill patients. Reiki was also found to cause desirable changes in personality, including reduced trait anxiety, enhancement of self-esteem, a shift toward an internal locus of control, and a realistic sense of personal control.
"Reiki is a safe, gentle, and profoundly relaxing healing modality that can be practiced by anyone who has received an “attunement” from a Reiki master. This review has found reasonably strong evidence for Reiki being more effective than placebo, suggesting that Reiki attunement leads to a quantifiable increase in healing ability.
Reiki is better than placebo in activating the parasympathetic nervous system, as measured by reduced heart rate, reduced blood pressure, and increased heart rate variability. For patients with chronic health conditions, Reiki has been found to be more effective than placebo for reducing pain, anxiety, and depression, and for improving self-esteem and quality of life. According to the neurovisceral integration model and the polyvagal theory, these effects are due to higher parasympathetic nervous system activity, mediated via the vagus nerve.
This understanding suggests that Reiki has the potential to provide valuable support for a broad range of chronic health conditions. However, there is no justification to regard Reiki as a cure for any health condition. Instead, Reiki should be regarded as a complementary therapy that can be implemented alongside all other medical and therapeutic techniques."

We see a 54% decrease in stress, 53% decrease in anxiety, 31% decrease in physical pain, and 43% decrease in emotional pain.
